Three Kinds
Which Sample You Actually Need
Most first enquiries ask for the wrong one, which costs a week. Stock if you are still choosing a format, decorated if you have chosen and need to see your own mark on it, new tooling only if nothing in the range will do.
Stock sample
An undecorated body and lid from current tooling, so you can judge size, weight and how it feels in the hand.
- Lead time
- 2–4 days
- Charged
- Piece cost plus courier
- Carries into production
- Nothing. It exists to let you rule a format in or out before you spend anything on decoration.
Decorated sample
Your logo and colour applied by the method you are considering, on the body you have chosen. This is the sample that decides the run.
- Lead time
- 3–7 days
- Charged
- Piece cost plus any new screen, Pantone match or mask set, plus courier
- Carries into production
- The screen, the colour match and the print proof — all of them are used again in production.
New-tooling sample
A structure that does not exist yet: a new body, a new lid or a bespoke assembly. Development work, not sampling.
- Lead time
- Quoted per project
- Charged
- Quoted as a separate line for the tooling and the development
- Carries into production
- The tooling, which is archived against your account.
We do not send free decorated samples. A decorated sample is made by the production method, so it carries real setup cost — a screen, a colour match or a mask set. That work is reused in the run, which is why it is quoted as a separate line rather than buried in the unit price. Whether the sample charge is credited back against the order depends on the agreed terms, and it is stated in the quotation.
