A promotional drinkware order is bought against a date, and everything else is negotiable. That single fact changes the specification advice: you want the shortest route to a good-looking piece, which means a stock body, a stock colour and one decoration pass, rather than a bespoke programme.
Designing for the date
| Decision | Effect on the calendar |
|---|---|
| Stock body and stock colour | Removes a coating run and its minimum |
| One logo, one position | One print setup |
| Bulk packing or a simple wrap | Removes the packaging minimum and its lead time |
| Artwork supplied as vector | Removes the most common delay of all |
What to specify anyway
- Whether it has to be carried. A campaign gift that is too heavy to take home is not a gift.
- Whether the logo has to survive. A mark that rubs off in a bag is worse than no mark, so if the item will be used hard, say so.
- What the recipient will do with it. A keepsake and a giveaway are different products at the same budget.
The one thing to decide early
Whether the item is being given to staff, to customers, or at an event. Staff and customer gifts often justify a better body, because they are seen repeatedly; event giveaways usually justify a cheaper one, because volume matters more than longevity. Getting that decision made early saves a specification round later, and the round is what costs the week.
Questions buyers ask
What is the fastest possible turnaround?
A stock item with a one-colour logo moves fastest, and samples from catalogue moulds run in 3–7 days. Production runs 10–25 days after approval, so the date is governed by when approval happens.
Are promotional quantities smaller?
They can be, and a single-colour logo on a stock item is the configuration with the lowest minimum. Below it, ask — the honest answer depends on the body.
Can the same item be branded differently for several teams?
Yes, and each distinct logo is a separate print setup, so it is one run with several setups rather than several minimums only if the body and colour are shared.
Send the date first and we will tell you which route reaches it — a mockup is the fastest way to see the artwork on the body.
